Kiddie Kandids

I know these are a bit small, but we had a photo shoot at Kiddie Kandids today to get 12 free birth announcements. They emailed me the pictures with the option to buy more, of course, and I thought I would share them on the blog.

Grandparents ~ if there is a picture you would like ordered for you, just let us know.

Ivan's Name

In the previous family pictures post, did you notice how Ivan's Great Grandpa, Grandpa and Dad all have the same name ~ Tom Haber? Ivan's Daddy's full name is Thomas Carl Haber, III. Before we got married, we decided that if and when we had a son, we would not be naming him Thomas Carl Haber, IV.

This summer while we were discussing names for our baby that was about to be born, we did discuss our previous decision, and we still agreed that we were not going to be naming a "4th" if it was a boy. We did want a name with some family significance, and we started considering our options. Anne's dad's middle name is Van, which she had always thought would be a neat first name. Problem is that "Van" plus "Haber" sounds more like a two word last name. Plus, if we aren't totally naming the baby after his dad, we probably shouldn't be naming him solely after her dad either. :)

So why not get a little creative? Take the IV from the "4th" + Van + Anne = Ivan.

First Shopping Trip

Today Ivan had his first shopping trip with mommy and daddy! We went to Costco to get diapers and a few other necessities. Two hours later, we finally found ourselves in the check out lane. :) Ivan actually slept through the entire process. We got one of the Baby Bjorn carriers, and this was our first time using it. It's a pretty neat item ~ very comfortable. Can you see Ivan?

Did
you know that Lincoln Logs, Erector Sets and Tinker Toys are being sold again?? They had them at Costco. We saw them as we were shopping for a birthday gift for our niece Sophie, who turns one tomorrow. (Be sure to check out their blog - thehaberfamily.blogspot.com) Anyway, we are trying to decide if we should go back to buy a set of each of these for Ivan now and hang on to them until he is old enough to play with them. What kind of childhood would be complete without Lincoln Logs or Tinker Toys!?!?!?

Doctor's Visits

Today both Ivan and Anne had their two week follow-up visits, and they went GREAT! There is only good news to report. Ivan is definitely a thriving baby. He has gained a pound over the last week! Fortunately, Anne has had the reverse experience, and she lost four pounds in the last week. Both mommy and baby are very pleased with themselves.

Even better is the fact that Anne's blood pressure has returned to normal. Today it was 112/70, which is right around what it was before it spiked during the pregnancy. Also, all of the swelling has disappeared, and only a bit of numbness remains in two of her finger tips. This should all clear-up in the next couple of weeks, and for now she doesn't need to keep going back to the doctor's office.

Ivan got to meet Dr. Bowen today. Dr. Bowen is fantastic, and we would recommend him to anyone who has a need for his services.

Like father like son.

Today was the first day that the three of us just hung out together. Ivan is having more awake time, and we have had so much fun cuddling and cooing over him. Since he is growing quickly now, he is finally fitting into some of the cute outfits that friends and family have given him as gifts. Here are some cute pictures from today for you to enjoy.

Thanks Bret & Nancy for the "too cute" green outfit!

Look at Ivan's "Scary" hat from D & T Gilfoy.
Yes, both mommy and Ivan got a wardrobe change in the middle of the day!

Sponge Bath

No more dirty baby!
Ivan got a sponge bath tonight, and he enjoyed it completely. As you can see in the pictures, he stayed calm, and let his mom have fun in the tub with him.
He's such a good baby. Look how tiny he is!

Ivan meets the family

Thanks to all our friends who have been patient with us as we get settled in with our new baby. We have had quite an influx of relatives here over the past two weeks, and almost all the family close by and a few from far away have had a chance to spend some time with us and Ivan.

Anne's mom, Twila, came in from South Dakota from 10/10/07 to 10/20/07. She was a HUGE help and is now going through baby withdrawal. Good thing she has all her preschool kids and own household to keep her busy until we go there for Thanksgiving. :)

Anne's dad, David, and her brother, Jordan, also got a chance to come come into town this past weekend to visit. It was a short visit but definitely worth it. We took the opportunity to have a friend take some professional shots with Anne's side of the family while they were here. We will be sure to post them once we get the pictures back.

We are fortunate to have so many of Tom's family right in this area. Ivan has had time with his cousin Sophie, several of his Tom's cousins (such as 'Crazy Aunt Cousin Megan'), most of Tom's siblings (we will be visiting Ivan's Aunt Karen this coming weekend in Columbus), Ivan's grandparents, great aunt & uncle and his great-grandparents. Needless to say, everyone has been quite smitten with him.
Enjoy the pictures!
(Which due to technical difficulties, will be in the next post.) :)
